Mustang Motorbike Tour

Nepal offers some of the best motorbike tours in the world due to its natural diversity, culture and beauty. One of the most famous and most scenic motorbike tour is the ride to Upper Mustang region. In this trip you can witness the beautiful and unique landscape of Mustang region and also experience the culture and tradition that cannot be found anywhere else in Nepal. You will pass through cities, rivers, villages, jungle, hot springs, desert and much more. The roads are a mix of paved and off road so it will surely make the ride more challenging and interesting. Experience the famous places such as Kathmandu, Pokhara, Jomsom, Muktinath and Lo Mangthang in this exciting bike tour.

Motorbike can be made available either in Kathmandu or Pokhara. You can even bring your bike through land border in India.

Itinerary

Day 1. Kathmandu to Pokhara

After breakfast, head to Pokhara. The distance from Kathamdu to Pokhara is around 200km. The ride takes around 7-8 hours. Till Mugling the road was really nice but from Mugling to Pokhara the road is terrible and full of road construction and dust. The highway from Mugling to Pokhara is having a large construction work taking place where the road will be extended from 2 lanes to 4 lanes road. The project will take around 2 years to complete so currently the state of the road is not so good. After the long and challenging ride you reach the beautiful city of Pokhara. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 2. Sightseeing in Pokhara

Early morning we proceed for half day visit of Sarangkote hill. Sarangkot is the small hilltop which is famous for its breath taking view of sunrise rest & panoramic sweep of Himalayan peaks. Later return back to hotel for breakfast. After breakfast sightseeing of Devid falls, Seti George and Bindabasini temple. Later also 1 hour boating of Phewa lake. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 3. Pokhara to Muktinath via Jomsom

After breakast, continue to ride to Muktinath. Muktinath is a holy Hindu and Buddhist temple of Lord Vishnu. The drive was around 7-8 hours long. On the way we pass through the town on Beni, than Tatopani (natural hot springs) and Jomsom. After Beni the road is off-road and around 20KM before the village of Marpha there is paved road. Today’s journey is beautiful and fascinating as you will cross waterfalls, village, jungle, river and different terrain. In the end you will have reached the beautiful village of Muktinath which is located at an altitude of 3762m. Overnight in Muktinath.

Day 4. Muktinath visit than drive to Dhakmar

Before breakfast you will walk to Muktinath temple to visit the temple and make prayers. There are 108 taps where people enter from one end and walk all the way to the end as a form of a shower of holy water and then there are two ponds where people take a dip after crossing the 108 holy taps. After the temple visit return to hotel for breakfast. After breakfast continue the motor bike ride with today’s destination being Dhakmar. The motorbike ride to Dhakmar was around 5-6 hours long. The ride can be quite tiring as the road are rocky which makes it very bumpy while riding. Aside from the road, the view was amazing with amazing Landscape with unique rock formations and almost desert like environment. You will reach Dhakmar in the afternoon around 3-4pm which will give you plenty hours to rest and see the views of this beautiful village which had beautiful Tibetan design houses and also amazing natural landscape. Overnight in Dhakmar.

Day 5. Dhakmar to Lo Manthang via Ghar Gumba

After breakfast, you make continue the ride towards Lo Manthang, the capital of Mustang. The drive was quite short around 4-5 hours with a stop in the middle to visit a beautiful monastery of Ghar Gumba. From the Gumba continue the ride to Lo Manthang. Lo Manthang. Lo Manthang located at an altitude of 3,840m used to be the walled capital of Kingdom of Lo. It was founded in 1380A.D. by Ame Pal was oversaw the construction of the city wall and many other structures that are still standing. Most of the wall and building are whitewashed mud-bricks that give the village its iconic look. Its a beautiful village was narrow alleys with rich Buddhist culture. Today you explore the beautiful kingdom of Lo Manthang. Overnight in Lo Manthang.

Day 6. Chosar valley and Shija Jhong cave, Niphu Gompa and Garphu Gompa exploration

After breakfast, we will make our ride to Chosar valley. visit the Shija Jhong Cave near Chhoser village. It is one of almost 10,000 man made caves in Upper Mustang that dates back more than 2500 years. Shija Jhong cave is 5 storey cave with more than 40 rooms. On the 5th floor there are some big holes that are carved to be windows. The view from the window is truly breathtaking. Than continue the ride to the Niphu Gompa and Garphu Gompa. Than ride back to Lo Manthang. Overnight in Lo Manthang.

Day 7. Lo Manthang to Tatopani

After breakfast, we will drive back to Tatopani. The bike ride will be 7-8 hours long with lunch stop either in Kagbeni or Jomsom. After reaching Tatopani you can visit the Hot Springs to relax and help the body recover for the long motor bike tour. Overnight in Tatopani.

Day 8. Tatopani to Pokhara

After breakfast continue the ride to Pokhara. The total journey will be 5-6 hours long and it will be the same route as day 3 when coming from Pokhara. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 9. Rest day in Pokhara

Today is a rest day in Pokhara where you can relax or do some shopping in the lakeside road. One option could be a 30 mins ride to Pame which is a more peaceful part of Lakeside. Overnight in Pokhara.

Day 10. Pokhara to Kathmandu

After breakfast, drive back to Kathmandu. This will take the same time and covers the same route when coming from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Overnight in Kathmandu.
