Tilicho – Naar – Terila and Mustang trek

Teri La Pass Trek is one of the off the beat trek that is slowly gaining popularity. The trek crosses through Teri La Pass which connects Manang with Mustang. The trek is located inside the restricted area, so a special permit will be required. This is a camping trek so it takes you away from tea house routes and into a more remote environment. You will be able to visit some mystical areas such as Tilicho ,Manang, Mustang and Nar Phu Valley. Some of the popular mountain peaks that you will be able to witness in the trek are Dhaulagiri range, Annapurna range, Tilicho peak, Gangapurna, Damodar Himal and more.

Itinerary

Day 1. Arrival at Kathmandu valley (1,350m/)

Welcome to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The Langtang Ri Trekking & Expedition representative will greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. After your refreshment you will be picked up from your hotel lobby and driven to our Thamel office where you will be formally introduced to your trekking guide. We will go through all your trek itinerary and arrangements with you to insurer every detail is in place. We will also ask to bring your passport, extra passport photographs and a copy of your travel insurance so that we can organize permits required for your trek in the Upper Mustang and Naar phu .

Day 2. Sightseeing in Kathmandu

Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast check-out at the hotel and drive to Swoyambhunath; world heritage site nestled on the top of the hill. Swoyambhunath famed as a monkey temple is constructed on stupa style. We spent almost 1 hour at the top of the hill where Swoyambhu temple is located that offers the breathtaking vision of the complete Kathmandu valley then descend from temple stepping on 365 stone steps.

Then drive you to another World heritage site Kathmandu durbar square named Basantpur durbar square; a hub of culture, tradition, religion is a historical site that embraces palaces and courtyards of old Malla and Shah Kings dates back from 14 to 15 centuries onwards. And we will have our lunch at the restaurant nestled at the premises of the durbar square.

After spending almost 1 and half hour drive for almost 1 hour to reach another world heritage site Pashupatinath nestled at the bank of the sacred Bagmati River. Pashupatinath; dedicated to Shiva is golden colored two-storey pagoda temple along with silver-plated doors and wood carving is on the bank of the Bagmati river.

Then finally drive to another destination Boudhanath famed as little Tibet taking almost 35 minutes. The biggest stupa of Nepal built during the fourteenth century is the hub for meditation and pilgrimage sites for Buddhists and other visitors also.

Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 3. Drive from Kathmandu to BESI SAHAR(760m/6hrs)

Morning permit preparation and after lunch drive to Besisahar which is the first destination of Annapurna circuit trek takes 5-6 hrs. Overnight in trekking loges

Day 4. Day 04: Drive from BESI SAHAR to Manang (2600 m). 8hrs Lodge overnight.

Drive to Manang take 6 h from Besisahar. The distance is just 96.5 kilometers but it is mountain off-road so we must go slowly and enjoy nature. Monastery in Braga. The Milarepa cave is located above the monastery on a steep slope. According to a legend, the famous 11th century Yogi Milarepa, taught here a local hunter to practice compassion towards all sentinent beings and refrain from slaughtering animals.

Day 5. Trek to Tilicho Base Camp (4160m) (6 hours)

A gradual walk to Khangsar 3756m, on the trail in the vicinity of pine trees, crossing the Khangsar River. A great glimpse of Tilicho Peak on the way. Enter the last settlement village Khangsar in Manang. An adventurous trek to the Tilicho Base Camp through the meadows witnessing yaks grazing. Enjoy the trek walking slowly maintaining the pace and sightseeing the valley from the top. Reach the Tilicho Base Camp passing the edge above the Kangsar Khola. Spending a night in a tent in the serenity amidst the mountains is a unique experience.

Day 6. Trek to Tilicho Lake 4949 Meters and back to Tilicho base camp 4100 M, 7-8 Hours

The exciting day begins by waking up early in the morning to go to Tilicho Lake. The view on the way to go Tilicho Lake is just mesmerizing. Manaslu, Himlung…Many mountains you can see from here. Finally, when you are on the bank of the Lake you will see the highest lake in the world. 

Day 7. Trek to Manang

Tosinje. Mursang. Thare gompa. Taresong. MANANG. Thoma exhibition.  

Day 8. Early morning drive to Koto. Koto – Meta (3230 m) 7h

We register our restricted area permit at the Police then head north ridge crossing Marshyandi River passing through beautiful pine forest till lunch place cal Oddar after lunch continues to gradual ascending till to Meta. Then we will reach the Tibetan Plateau from where we can have a very good view of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal, 

Day 9. Meta – Naar village (4110 m) 5h

Today is a short day walk, after breakfast, our journey will start, and cross the Nar Khola to visit Monastery, and after continuing 3hrs ascend to Nar Village. After the lunch bit, rest and you should go for a small acclimatization hike visit some Buddhist Monasteries and villages, and back to the lodge. Nar village also presents glorious views of Pisang Peak, Kang Guru, and other snow peaks.

Day 10. Naar – Lapse Khola (4700 m) 7hrs walk tented Camp.

We follow the Lapse Khola, cross the bridge, and climb to Chubse Kharka (4,400m). lunch at the Kharka and shortly leave towards open grassland set above the river where we set our camp.

Day 11. Lapse Khola – Lungri(Lapse Khola)(5000 m) 6h00 walk.

The trail follows the Lapse Khola high above the river keeping approximately to the 4800-meter contour and climbing and descending to negotiate several side valleys. Towards the end of the day’s trek, we meet the river and make camp at around 5000 m.

Day 12. Lungri Khola -Teri-la Base Camp (5363 m) 6hrs walk tented Camp

Following the Lapse Khola Valley, we climb to the high camp, actually, the trails are less explored valley totally wild nature.

Day 13. Base Camp – Teri-la pass (5577 m) Pasphu Khola (4745 m. tented.

Trek continues towards the summit of Teri La/Teri-La Pass. We can get a magnificent view of the Annapurnas and Chulus. After spending an ample amount of time there, we then descend to Pashu Khola and set the camp next to it.

Day 14. Pashu Khola – Yakpa (4315 m) 6hrs walk Tented Camp.

Walk 8 h downhill to the river and the area of Yakpa Kharka and then climb to a rocky ridge. We trek down to Samena Khola Valley, cross the river, and reach our campsite at old Kampa Village of Yakpa.

Day 15. Yakpa – Tangge (3338 m) 6hrs walk Lodge or tented Camp.

Leaving behind Yakpa, trek towards Tangge, a small hamlet of just twenty houses where you can see many sheep, goats, and large mastiffs and the largest chorten in Mustang. We follow the traditional route to this beautiful settlement offering a wonderful view of Dhaulagiri.

We have to cross a number of streams in this part of the trek, so it is best advised to hike in your sandals for the next hour. The valley is awe-inspiring, a feast of mustard yellow, red and orange rocks shining from the gurgling natural springs as it narrows and widens, the horns of blue sheep marking our path. The canyon narrows around us as we hike. We've entered a lost world of contorted canyons, muted earth tones, and narrow passages, the wonderful place called Mustang. This place is mineral rich which is manifested in the mustard and blood-orange stained rocks, and we also start to see salt drips suspended from the rock faces indicating the origins of the salt trade in this region which had incidentally made Mustang a very healthy town.

Day 16. Tangge – Yara (3605 m) 8hrs walk Lodge or tented Camp.

From Tangge we follow the trail climbing through the moraine of the valley and reach a high plateau that provides stunning views of some Himalayan peaks. Soon after we decline to the Dhechyang Khola, we enter the valley of Dye Thangchung. Our trail goes through the valley shoulder after crossing the river. Today, we trek along with unique and amazing rock formations. After crossing a river, we then reach a small settlement of Yara Overnight.

Day 17. Visit Ghara and Luri Gumba (4005 m) and back to Yara 7hrs.

Head down to Luri Gompa which was established in the thirteenth century, it is also known as Kagyupa cave monastery. There are brilliantly composed lama’s books discovered here. The course proceeds up to Duyung Khola which runs from the Damodar Kund. This spot is additionally popular for Hindu pilgrims. Above the river is a small nunnery surrounded by the art of erosion. Inside there are frescos of tantric deities as well as the lineage of Marpa and Milarepa. Further down above the river be there is cave chorten, a unique feature of the culture of Mustang. According to tradition there are 24 such cave chortens - known as Tashi Kabum - scattered all over Mustang. Just a few has been discovered so far. The headwater is a territory of land from where the water runs down into the Kali Gandaki River. This spot is popular for dark ammonite fossils discovered hereabouts. Hindus and Buddhists gather these fossils to adore in their conviction that it is the encapsulation of God Vishnu. Overnight at the teahouse. 

Day 18. Luri Gomba Lo Manthang.

Walk to another beautiful village Dhi. Explore and start climbing towards the Dhi La Pass via more rock formations. From the summit, we descend to the capital of Mustang, an ancient walled and isolated city of Lo Manthang.

Day 19. Lo Manthang

Just a few years ago the cave temple of Konchokling has been discovered by a local shepherd who were searching for a lost animal. The ascend is one of the most breathtaking hikes in all over Mustang and leads you into a labyrinth of Canyons. Ringzin Ling, acave temple with fine murals has been also discovered recently, but has been inaccessible until today.

Lo Manthang is a walled municipality within the isolated Nepal zone of the Upper Mustang. We expend the day in the area visiting three great gompas, namely Jhampa, Chhoeda, and Thupchen. Over the past two decades, several of these gompas have undergone professional renovation. We can also go hiking northwest of Lo-Mangthang to Tingkhar, an ancient attractive village. Stay at Lo Manthang, in the evening.

Day 20. Trekking to Dhakmar

Trekking on a remote but spectacular route from Lo Manthang across two passes to Dhakmar. After crossing the first pass we will visit the oldest monastery of Mustang, Gar Gompa (Lo Gekar) which is regarded been founded by Padmasambhava (Guru Rimpoche), who subdue here a local demon. The second pass leads into the spectacular eroded landscpae of Dhakmar. (Here you have only one good option to lodge, the Tenzin Guesthouse, however if you proceed for another hour you will reach Ghemi and there is one of the best places to stay in all over Mustang, the Royal Guesthouse of Rayu Bista)

Day 21. Drive from Dhakmar or Ghemi to Jomsom

(The car has to be ordered in Lo Manthang before you depart your journey to Jomsom). It is a MUST to stop in Chhuksang to visit at least the Mentsi Kang cave temple there, I mentioned in my itinerary I did sent to you previously)

(Instead of driving all the way from Dhakmar or Ghemi to Jomsom, you may consider to drive only to Shyangboche and then sent the car(s) to Samar, while you walk to Samar via Chungsi Cave temple and in Samar you continue by cars to Jomsom)

Day 22. Fly to Pokhara

After breakfast, take a flight back to Pokhara, where you'll get a spectacular view of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Nilgiri, the entire Annapurna range, and Mt. Fishtail. After reaching Pokhara, we will wait to fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to a hotel with B.B. Plan.

Day 23. Fly to Kathmandu. Final Departure day.

You will be returning to your home filled with adventure memories during your stay in Nepal and trekking in the Annapurna Region. Our representative will help you with your departure to your homeland.
