3-Day Bhutan Cultural Delight: Paro, Thimphu & Tiger’s Nest Hike

Arrive at Paro International Airport.

Drive toward Thimphu, stopping at Tachog Lhakhang, where you can see a rare ancient bridge made of iron chains.

Visit the magnificent Buddha Dordenma, one of the largest sitting Buddha statues in the world.

Continue to Changlimithang Stadium to witness Bhutanese archery in action.

Explore the Clock Tower Square, stroll along Norzin Lam, and observe the famous intersection where traffic police control traffic without lights.

Visit the Handicraft Market to shop for local souvenirs and handicrafts.

Conclude with a tour of the Tashichho Dzong, an impressive fortress housing the king’s offices and the central monastic body.

In the evening, return to Paro for overnight stay.

Early drive to Drukgyel Dzong, a rebuilt fortress offering views of Mt. Jomolhari in clear weather.

Begin the hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest) — Bhutan’s most iconic site perched on a cliff at 3,120 meters.

• Energetic hikers may continue further to Zangtopelri Lhakhang above the main temple.

After descending, visit the National Museum housed in Ta Dzong. Explore the Natural History Gallery with views of Paro Valley.

Continue to Rinpung Dzong, a striking fortress known from the film Little Buddha.

Walk down to the traditional wooden bridge and dress in Bhutanese attire for photos.

Drive to Paro Airport Viewpoint — a spot to observe planes landing on one of the world’s most challenging runways.

Optional: Attend a traditional mask dance performance and enjoy a local Bhutanese dinner in a traditional farmhouse.

Time permitting, visit Zangtopelri Lhakhang in Bondey village — a stunning modern temple with intricate art.

Alternatively, explore the cliffside Dzongdrakha Lhakhang, often called the “Mini Tiger’s Nest”.

Departure from Paro by air or continue overland (~5-hour drive) to the Phuentsholing border.
