Overview
Kalinchowk Short Tour – 2 Days/1 Night is a quick yet memorable getaway from Kathmandu, combining scenic mountain drives, Himalayan vistas, and cultural experiences. Starting from Kathmandu, you drive 144.6 km (6–7 hrs) northeast to Kuri Village (2,050 m / 6,725 ft), a charming village where you experience authentic Nepali rural life.
On the second day, you rise early for a sunrise at Kalinchowk (3,842 m / 12,605 ft), one of the most spectacular Himalayan viewpoints in Dolakha district. The site offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks including Langtang Lirung (7,227 m), Mt. Gauri Sankar (7,134 m), Mt. Dorje Lhakpa (6,966 m), and Gurkarpo Ri (6,891 m). You can also visit the sacred Kalinchowk Bhagwati Temple. Focal point of Kalinchowk is the Kalinchowk Bhagwati Temple, dedicated to Goddess Bhagwati (a form of Goddess Durga). The temple attracts pilgrims year-round, especially during Dashain, when thousands of devotees come to offer prayers and sacrifices. The temple’s hilltop location gives it an awe-inspiring backdrop of the Himalayas, making it both a spiritual and scenic destination. Afterward, return to Kuri Village and drive back to Kathmandu, completing the adventure.
Early morning visits allow travelers to witness a breathtaking sunrise, with the first light illuminating snow-capped mountains, creating a photographer’s paradise. The region is rich in rhododendron forests, pine trees, and alpine shrubs. Birdwatchers and nature lovers can spot Himalayan pheasants, sparrows, and other high-altitude birds.
