Overview

The Langtang Gosaikunda Trek Anti-Clockwise is a beautiful and unique trekking route that combines the scenic beauty of Langtang Valley with the sacred Gosaikunda Lake. This trek takes you on a journey through verdant forests, traditional Tamang villages, high-altitude alpine meadows, and rugged landscapes. Starting from the lowland areas, you’ll ascend to the high-altitude regions, where the Gosaikunda Lake is located. This route offers not only picturesque views but also a rich cultural experience, allowing trekkers to witness the lifestyles of the ethnic Tamang and Sherpa communities who call this region home.

The anti-clockwise route follows a more gradual climb compared to the traditional clockwise route. Beginning from Syabrubesi, the trek passes through the lush Langtang National Park, home to diverse flora and fauna, including red pandas and Himalayan tahr. The trek reaches Langtang Village, a once-damaged village due to the 2015 earthquake, now rebuilt and vibrant with life. From here, trekkers journey toward the sacred Gosaikunda Lake, nestled at an elevation of 4,380 meters (14,370 feet), before descending via Helambu and concluding back at Syabrubesi.

One of the major attractions of this trek is the opportunity to visit Gosaikunda Lake, considered sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists. Pilgrims flock to this lake during the Janai Purnima Festival, a major event in the Hindu calendar. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, including Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, and Manaslu.

Along the way, trekkers will pass through lush forests filled with rhododendrons, oak trees, and bamboo, with spectacular views of the surrounding peaks. The anti-clockwise direction allows for better acclimatization, with gradual ascents and more time to adjust to the higher altitudes. After Gosaikunda, the descent to Helambu offers a peaceful end to the trek, with its charming Sherpa villages and terraced fields.

The Langtang Gosaikunda Trek Anti-Clockwise is also less crowded than the popular trekking routes like Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit, giving you a more intimate and serene trekking experience. The region is a hidden gem, offering a balance of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and adventure.

As you trek through the region, you will encounter local communities and have opportunities to experience the rich Buddhist culture of the Langtang region. The route also offers a chance to visit ancient monasteries and experience local hospitality, making it an enriching cultural journey as well as a physical adventure.

Pamfa did an incredible job organizing our trip. Her communication before the trip was excellent, helping us set up our dream itinerary with ease. She was attentive to our needs and ensured every detail was perfect. And she was very welcoming in Kathmandu, sending her son to pick us up in the airport and coming the first day to make sure everything was alright, we had all the needed papers, and we understood them! Thanks to Pamfa, we had an unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!
