Overview
Kailash Manasarovar via Kerung – 14 Day is like a soul-stirring road trip height about 1,500–1,700 km of beautiful roads and paths way up high. It’s a mix of getting used to the altitude and checking out the local culture. Starting in Kathmandu, it’s a drive through the Araniko Highway into the Himalayan foothills, past hills, rivers, and small towns, heading to the Nepal-China border at Kerung. On the way, you get amazing views of valleys, Himalayan mountains, and Nepali life, including temples.
After crossing into Tibet, the trip goes from Kerung border to Saga and Purang, across the Tibetan plateau at altitudes from 3,750 m to 4,600 m. You’ll see out-of-the-way Tibetan villages, monasteries, prayer flags, mani walls, and markets, soaking in the culture with some amazing scenery. You can also see how nomadic people live, their yak herds, and old Tibetan buildings before getting to Lake Manasarovar and Darchen. The main event is the Mount Kailash Parikrama (Kora), a 32 km trek over three days, including going over the Dolma La Pass at 5,645 m.

People do their rituals, meditate, and pray while seeing glacial valleys, snow-covered mountains, and prayer flags. It’s a chance to really get into the feel of Mount Kailash, both its natural beauty and its religious meaning. Throughout the trip, you can do spiritual stuff at Lake Manasarovar, like Puja, Parikrama, and meditation, while taking in the lake’s clear waters and the mountains in the distance. The road trip gives you lots of chances to check out Tibetan culture, food, monasteries, and high-up plains. It’s a well-rounded experience that balances devotion, culture, and over 14 days. Kailash Manasarovar Yatra falls between May and September. During these months, the weather conditions are comparatively more forgiving, and the mountain passes and roadways leading to the holy sites are generally open and accessible. For those planning to embark on this sacred trek, various tour operators provide organized packages. These packages often vary in price, depending on the duration, mode of transportation, and level of accommodation provided.
Undertaking the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra represents a challenging yet deeply spiritual pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar, both located in Tibet.
