Everest Region Trekking Update: Safety Assured on Nepal Side 2025

The Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) has issued an official clarification regarding recent concerns about weather conditions and safety in the Everest Region following a news report published by BBC News.

Everest Region Update October 2025 – Trekking in Nepal Remains Safe

According to TAAN, several individuals and embassies in Kathmandu have expressed worry over the safety of trekkers and conditions along the Everest Base Camp Trail. However, TAAN has confirmed that the Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal remains completely safe, and all trekkers, guides, and support staff in the region are doing well.

The association further clarified that the BBC News article titled “Snowstorm traps 1000 people on slopes of Mt. Everest” refers to an incident on the Chinese (Tibetan) side of Mount Everest, not the Nepalese side. Therefore, there is no safety issue affecting trekkers or expeditions on the Nepal side of Everest.

TAAN assures all trekking partners, travelers, and stakeholders that the Everest Region is operating normally, with all trekking routes open and safe for travel. The association continues to closely monitor weather patterns and coordinate with local authorities to ensure the well-being of all trekkers in Nepal’s mountain regions.

Clarification on the News Report

TAAN emphasized that the situation reported by the BBC occurred beyond Nepal’s territory. On the Nepal side, all trekking routes, lodges, and logistics remain open and secure. Weather conditions are being regularly monitored, and there have been no reports of disruptions or safety issues from the Everest Base Camp route.

Message to Trekkers and Partners

Trekkers currently in the Everest region or planning their upcoming journey can continue their travel plans without concern. TAAN and its member agencies are in continuous communication with local authorities, guides, and communities to ensure the highest safety standards and up-to-date information for travelers.

TAAN’s Assurance

“Everest Base Camp Trek is safe, and all trekkers, including the support team members, are doing fine. The news of a snowstorm pertains to the Chinese side of Everest, not Nepal,” TAAN stated in its official notice released at 12:10 PM, October 6, 2025.
