Kathmandu Mini Circuit Trek – 5 Day

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel for a rest to get rid of jet lag. This can be an important moment for recovery, meeting the guide, and finalizing trek preparations. You will also go on a city exploration to get familiar with its local surroundings, services, and necessary permits. Kathmandu is a local point for trekkers to shop for gear, book items at the last minute, and confirm your trekking itinerary. The best time for trekking in Nepal is spring-from March to May-and autumn-from September to November-when the weather is clear and the skies are blue, thus making the conditions perfect for an enjoyable and safe adventure.

You will go sightseeing in Kathmandu today, visiting the main landmarks such as Swayambhunath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Durbar Square to behold the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of Kathmandu. These sites give insight into Nepal's history and traditions. Later in the afternoon, you'll get ready for the trek by meeting your guide, confirming permits, and ensuring you have all the necessary gear. The day helps you acclimatize to the city while being completely prepared for the adventure in the Himalayas.

Your adventure begins with a short but thrilling flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, offering jaw-dropping aerial views of the Himalayas, lush valleys, and terraced hillsides. Once in Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region, we stop briefly for lunch before beginning our trek. The trail to Phakding is a gentle descent, winding through charming Sherpa villages, pine forests, and across swaying suspension bridges. After about 3–4 hours of pleasant walking, we reach the peaceful riverside village of Phakding where we settle in for the night.

Today’s trek follows the beautiful Dudh Koshi River as we cross several suspension bridges draped with prayer flags and pass through small mountain settlements. As we enter Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo, the forest thickens and the trail becomes steeper. After lunch at Jorsalle, we begin the challenging ascent up Namche Hill, with Everest and other Himalayan giants making brief appearances through the trees. The effort is well rewarded as we arrive at the lively mountain town of Namche Bazaar, surrounded by snow-capped peaks.

Rather than a rest day, today is about exploring and acclimatizing. We start with a visit to the Sherpa Culture Museum and the nearby Sagarmatha National Park Visitor Center for insight into local traditions, mountaineering history, and biodiversity. A scenic hike to the Everest View Hotel offers stunning panoramas of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. Optional visits to Khunde and Khumjung villages or the Hillary School add even more depth to the cultural experience. We return to Namche in the afternoon with plenty of time to relax and take in the high-mountain atmosphere.

We retrace our steps down the trail, descending from Namche to the riverside village of Phakding and then gently ascending back to Lukla. The route feels different this time as we reflect on the past few days spent in the mountains. Along the way, you’ll once again pass vibrant forests, prayer stones, and fluttering flags as you cross the Dudh Koshi one last time. Arriving in Lukla marks the end of our trekking journey, and the evening is perfect for celebrating with your team and enjoying one last mountain night.

An early breakfast prepares us for the return flight to Kathmandu. As the small plane lifts off from Lukla’s hillside airstrip, take a final look at the majestic Himalayas. Once back in the city, you'll be transferred to your hotel. The afternoon is yours to relax, shop for souvenirs, or explore the bustling streets of Thamel. With your mountain journey behind you, the contrast of city life feels both refreshing and surreal.
